FTTP and so I think it's a server thing...
Why do occasional youtube videos seem to play ok for a bit, and then just stutter to a stop? It's individual videos, if another is selected, it plays fine, but back to the original and it won't play. Usually I give up, and can watch later OK.

As I write this, I wonder if it's my TV with crap software, as it never seems to happen on the PC.

It will be a combination of factors.

Firstly the PC will have more memory than the TV, the TV may only be able to maintain a minimal buffer, so if the connection gets interrupted it may not be able to recover before the buffer is expired.

Secondly, PC Software is much more developed, so the core drivers/OS/System used on the TV could have unresolved issues or just be poorly designed and maintained.

Thirdly, the App itself to the same extent as the second.

Fourthly, YouTube will likely prioritise resources for highly viewed videos and channels.

I was wondering this exact thing yesterday when it happened to me (TV app); it only ever seems to happen with one channel in particular but I don’t have the same problem what hing the same channel on any other device.

What resolution are you trying to stream at?

On the PC you can right click on the stream and click on stats for nerds which shows the buffer status, not sure if you can do the same on your TV?
