Smartwatch/Band that can record steps while in a Pocket?

Had a mi band 2 that wasn't able to track anything when off the wrist.
Is there any that can count steps if you just put it in your pocket like a phone can do?

Have a nice watch that I wear that I don't want to swap, I tried to with the Mi band 2 but I missed my old watch so much that I gave the mi band away.

Have a look on amazon for a pedometer and clip to your belt. Or does it have to be smart so it can sync to your phone or similar?

I'm aware of those pedometers, they don't track/keep the data really well.
