Apologies first if this is not the correct forum.
My BT TV contract is up at the end of this month and while I am keeping my broadband with them I wil be cancelling the BT TV.
What I want to know is can I keep the Youview box and still use it to record TV programmes.
Can I just leave it connected as it is to my smart tv except for disconnecting the cable that runs from the hub to the Youview box ?
Will I still be able to see the programme guide and be able to series record programmes as I do now or is this not possible and I would have to buy a new tv recorder ?

Not sure if it's changed recently, but a friend moved from BT back to Sky, and gave me his BT TV box. Works fine as a smart box and free view recorder.
The only things that don't work are the subscription Internet channels.

I’m pretty sure you lose the ability to set up record etc via app, unless that changed recently !

Yes the BT/Humax/Youview box will work as normal, will record as normal and the apps like iplayer etc will work , as long as it's connected to the internet.

You will lose access to the extra BT TV and sport channels etc

I have two BT/Humax boxes working on my Tvs.

When did you have your box? If after Dec 2019 then it's "on loan" and they will want it back or charge you for it! They will probably ask you for it back anyway. But yes it will still work and record etc.

Yep! Also note that the box will update it's EPG so it all looks different to when you were on BT. They didn't ask for the box back but did ask for the router. Mine was replaced in contract after 2019 but because I was with them prior to that they didn't ask for it back. TBH if they did I'd just keep a Humax box from Currys.

You can still remote record via the BT TV app with no BT subscription. I got a second hand BT TV box when I moved into my house, and just use it as a freeview box with no subscription.

Thanks for all the answers, good to know I can carry on using the Youview box. If BT ask for it back I will just have to buy a new one elsewhere.
