Dead SSD out of the box
Discussion
Hi all,
I bought a ssd a while back, but it sat on the cupboard unopened until a few days ago.
Upon plugging in to the Mac USB-C port, nothing.
No light from the ssd or it appearing on the desktop.
I tried all the other 3 ports, no joy.
Plugged it into another Mac … still nothing.
Tried again on the first Mac and it did fire up and popped up on the desktop.
Tried again and a many more times and nothing.
I haven’t got the original receipt and LaCie don’t want to know.
Is there anything I can try before binning it?
Thanks all

Don't completely write the disk off just yet. From the sounds of it, you've bought an external in a caddy of some sort. Do you have a link to the one you have?
It could be that the caddy/housing is defective but the drive might be fine, so it might require just a new housing to be working. Also, depending on the spec of the drive, some of them require higher current which may or may not be provided by the USB port you are using. I have an NVMe drive in an external housing and it requires a USB Y cable to work correctly, drawing power from two ports on the machine end into the one on the caddy.

I don’t have the original receipt unfortunately
Ought not to matter. Back to whoever sold it to you, rather than LaCie directly. Can you dig out a bank statement with that transaction on?M
