I’ve never been one for the latest, greatest iPhone (14?]. As good as they are. I’ve no need to take low-light, wide-angle, 3D-whatever photographs, nor do I need super-duper processing speed. And even I did, I couldn’t afford one anyway. So as it stands, my current iPhone SE 2020 does the job. The phone - and the contract that goes with it - is 2 years old now, so it’ll soon be time for a change/upgrade, or at the very least a new battery.

So, is the iPhone SE 2022 worth the cost that comes with upgrading from a 2020, or are the differences so small, that I’d be better off just replacing the battery for £50 (by Apple) and sticking with that, given my somewhat basic requirements?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I think you’ve answered your own question there…

If you’re happy with the phone and it does all you want why bother with the faff of changing it? I would keep it going for as long as it can run the latest iOS.

At two years old I’m not even sure it’s worth changing the battery either - have you checked it’s state in settings? You should get a couple more years out of it. When it gets so it can’t hold a charge for a day then I’d get Apple to change the battery.

When your contract finishes just get the phone unlocked and get a SIM only plan. There are plenty of decent ones for £10/month or so…

FWIW I’m still using an 8+ and with a battery replaced last year it suits my needs fine.

Doesn't look like there's enough of an incentive at the moment... I'm only just getting round to replace my release date X now. Had a new battery installed by Apple before going on a European roadtrip.

I'm in the same boat, newer SE has 5G and a slightly better processor, that's about it. I'm going to get a new battery in my older SE. I like smaller phones so a 13 mini is an option, if they get cheaper.

I went from a 4S to a 6 then an 8 to a 13.

New models came and went but I found that each one did everything I needed it to do and could never see the point in upgrading for the sake of it.

Once the 4S arrived they've all been very good.

When I bought the 13 I would have been quite happy with a 12 but the deals on offer were excellent.

Oddly enough I moved from an SE 2020 to the 2022 version a few months ago as I managed to crack the screen on the old one.

Difference, insofar as I can tell: absolutely bugger all!

At £400 a pop though I'm glad it's work's phone rather than my own.

Thank you all, I’m grateful for your input. Seems I’ll be no better off at all.

Re. Battery: this one is down to 85% “health” and the drop in battery life is noticeable, albeit not hugely inconveniencing, given I’m never far from a charger. That’ll be down to 80-odd by the time I do get round to sorting things.
