...I remove the power lead, wait 30 seconds then hold down the on button when i put the cable back in.

This is a 'fix' online for Brother printers that wont turn on on load of forums.

What i can't find online is a permanent fix. Every time i turn the power off i have to do this lead removal procedure to get it back on which is getting a bit boring. It is a DCP-L355OCDW laser printer which is about 2.5 years old.

Anyone got any idea why it does this? Or more importantly what a permanent fix might be?

FOr what it is worth it started doing this after I hadn't used it for about 3 months and when i did i installed an over the air update when i turned it on....

have you tried logging into the admin interface with a browser? There could be settings there for power save.....I assume you print wirelessly to it?

yes, i print wirelessly. dont think it is a power save issue. it's set to power save after 1 hour...wakes up fine when i send a job to it. the issue is when i physically turn it off via the power button....it is then it wont turn on again without removing the power lead for 30secs and holding the on button on while putting the power cable back in.

Do you have a phone or network cable plugged into the printer?

We have a MFC-9970CDW and it never gets turned off. Power save at best.....maybe don't turn it off?

No - it is connected to our network via wifi.

Can you downgrade the firmware update that you mentioned in your OP to the previous version?

In sleep it uses about 9w/hr, or about 0.45p/hr (at 50p/kwh).

If you can get it into "deep sleep" (whatever that is) then it uses 0.05p/hr.

If it is waking up when you haven't turned it off on the power button then it is not entering Power Off state for some reason. The normal reason is that a phone or network cable is connected.

It's likely going into Deep Sleep mode, the only way to be sure is to measure the power draw.

Personally, I leave mine to do it's own thing and never turn it off on the Power Button.

Does the green LED flash slowly when you don't use the Power Button to switch it off?

Why with all of the technology available to mankind can we not develop a home printer that isn't mostly fking useless? When I worked on a helpdesk (some years ago now) about 70% of our calls related to printers, I recently got to glance at the stats for a company I was doing some work for and its still the same, 20 years and the tech in that space is still fking appalling hehe

My Lexmark and Brother lasers are 100% problem free, maybe I'm just lucky.
