All of the recent Android phones I e used have a search option at the tip of the settings screen, just type split in there.

On my Oneplus the option is under apps from the settings menu, once embalmed it's either a 3 finger swipe up to activate or the 3 dot menu on the task manager/open apps screen

Sure - here's a quick vid to show you how:

Basically click and hold the Navigation bar then tap the icon of the app you want to split-screen. Then tap the second app you want to split-screen; note not all apps support it. You can dynamically resize the split by adjusting the mini-Navigation bars under each app. To resize an app to full screen, drag its Navigation bar to the edge of the screen.

Open your recently used apps view. Click on the 3 dots near the top of the screen and select split screen.

This is part of the problem for android. It supports stuff like split screen and windowing natively, but OEM's implement the functions differently so devices from different manufacturers have different ways of performing the exact same task.

I'd not encountered mention of the 3-dot menu for accessing split-screen before for example.

Go to Recent Apps. Tap the app's logo (top centre of the tile).

Thanks - that works on my pixel. I didn't know that was possible

It also depends whether you're also using the old-style 2/3-button menu or gesture navigation implemented from Android 11 onward.

Gesture navigation works so well and way better than the old 2/3-button. If you've not tried gesture navigation and you're on Android 11 onward, give it a try.

Yeah, gesture navigation is transformative in my opinion. Been using it since it was launched.
But I also realise it's not for everyone, and some people will always just prefer the simplicity of a back button.

My 'problem' is that I've been using Nova Launcher for years. It has customisable gestures, but I suspect some native Android stuff offers more flexibility.

Now you mention it, I've got Nova too laugh

I'd forgotten that small inconsequential tidbit of information.
biggrin It won't prevent you using split screen with the method I outlined above.
