My 10 year old son is getting into gaming and has asked about me buying him a gaming pc for xmas.

20 years ago I had some ability to swap out boards, upgrade ram etc for business PC's, but I'm well out of touch with it now and don't really know where to start with a gaming PC. I don't want to spend a huge amount, but am after something reasonable to begin with that we can maybe upgrade. It also need to be used for internet and school work etc. I'd also probably be looking for a dual monitor setup.

Help! Where do I start?

Which games is he interested in and given his age are you happy for him to be online unsupervised playing.

This should help determine what sort of spec. ( no point spending a fortune on graphics cards if you're on robloxs/fornite)

Anything suitable for gaming - would handle internet and schoolwork/

Also - unlikely he would use dual monitors unless he has a specific game in mind.

Any idea on budget as that would help

Somewhere like this - https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/

Pick the CPU, Intel i3 or Ryzen 3 would get you started, and then go through the other parts. The website will keep you compatible, and if you post up the list links with that short code on the end, PHers will insist you gold plate the PSU offer advice. biggrin
