Help please PH gurus, only you ‘may’ save me, you’re my only hope!

This is a couple of incidents leading to a perfect storm frown

I noticed some strange activity on my FB account; so I changed my password; 3 days after I got a new mobile phone.

Now the App wants me to give them a code generated by the generator in the app

Which I can’t do because I can’t get into it

Ok it says, use another device you have used before to log in & confirm this is you

BUT because the App has changed my password, I can’t login to any other device I’ve used before via the browser as I’m not authenticated…

Send us your email address & ID they say - done, code sent & entered AND it wants me to enter a code from the code generator in the app I can’t get into

I’m going round in circles; I’ve been told twice now to try again in 24 hrs to use the the ID again (having already waited 24 hrs)…

Bear in mind that I have googled & followed a myriad of suggestion from FB, so don’t get upset if I say I’ve already tried & didn’t work laugh

Any idea on how to get to “speak” to an actual person please?

You’ll see there’s a reply and think Great!, only to find disappointment with this point hehe

Am keeping an eye as my wife is in a similar position - doesn’t know the p/w and can only access fb though a very old and creaky ipad, she also changed her email account so can’t reset it that way.

So hoping I can leverage however you fix your issue, good luck!

Viewing as an outsider, can you not click the menu, report it as a fake account, get it closed then just open a new one?

Fingers crossed for her! She can try the iD method if she doesn’t have the email account wink

I could, but I’d lose 20 or so years worth of pictures, memories & friends, plus messages & control of the Menopause groups I run!

Mine was hacked...noticed by a notification my "session had expired". After zero help from Facebook, they seem to have no customer support at all...I managed to get to some point of recovery and got my email address back onto the account...along side a .RU email address.

Despite various codes being sent by Facebook, me uploading my ID, getting a "one last step to restore access to your account" email and a link that failed...I gave up! My profile was pretty empty, no home town, no phone number etc so didn't really help myself for recovery but at the same time also meant the account was useless to anyone.

Facebook friends sent me screen shots showing "me" commenting on some really odd stuff. When I try to recover now I just see the one email address I added but no chance of recovery. Seems once hacked they are near impossible to get back

Can't you just log in via their website in a browser?

No, because it wants me to authenticate

Good result there for you.
Mine was hacked in the summer. I dont know how, but they got in. They changed my password, swapped out my email address and phone number, and set up 2 factor authentication which I thought I had set up already.

The 'Recover Account' options were useless for me as it would only send a password reset to the registered email address which, as of 10 minutes earlier, wasn't mine. I did have several email notifications from Facebook about login attempts and password resets with a link to 'click here if it wasn't you'. With those clicked and multiple attempts to log in my account ended up locked down.

I managed to find the option to send them a photo of my ID to recover my account which got my email address reinstated, but there was still the 'Too Many Attempts:Try later' error which took 3 days to clear. Once that cleared I needed to submit my ID again to get around the 2FA they set up.

Not a great experience, but I had my account back in 3-4 days. When submitting your ID there's a note that it may take a few days, but both of mine cleared within an hour of submitting.

I would get it all set up properly again now or else next minute somebody else will be in your account.
