need an in ear comms system between two people for communication.

No wires. So two people can sit in a noisy restaurant and talk to each other. Must not need a mobile phone or anything complicated as one of those people has dementia.

I went looking at motorcycling comms systems but they all contain the sort of wires which would get in the way of the meal. I looked at hearing aids but they don't seem to be able to communicate directly with each other.

Any motorcyclist know of somethign useful and can point me in the right direction?

2 phones. You set up the call before you sit down.

You carry both phones. 1 bt earpiece each.

So long as you stay within 30 feet or so it will work.

Going to be the cheapest solution. Just make sure phones are fully charged and good network coverage. Gif gaff is free calls fwiw.

PMR would work but needs a push to talk which may be an issue.

Ps you want something with good noise cancellation or it could be irritating also the network should look after echo cancellation but at times it might struggle with a lot of noise. So defo get a good quality bt ear piece.

The two phones thing isn't really an option. The phone would get left behind or dropped very quickly.

Possibly a single phone with an app and two connected bluetooth earphones might work as one of them would just be able to use it, but I've never seen that app.

The good one of the two has destroyed three phones in less than two weeks, and they have the slight problem that a phone on the floor is not reachable.

A set of linked bluetooth 'in ear' or 'behind ear' must be possible for someone like a motorcyclist and pillion??

Anything is possible, but in reality you are looking at some sort of control box in the system regardless if it’s a phone or pmr radio or vhf radio etc etc

Asking for it to be wireless is just making the situation worse not better. It’s adding another layer of complexity.

I can recommend a wireless back to back covert radio solution for you, but the set up is going to be he issue.

Hearing aids might be a better solution. Good ones with noise cancelling.

unfortunately they both have hearing aids, and that is part of the problem. Hearing aids are omnidirectional. Trying to communicate with someone with dementia when they can't hear much is a bit of a disaster. They amplify background noise and it turns into a shouting contest.

Hearing aids have a T loop system to communicate with bank tellers etc which cancels out all other communication. but there isn't a solution for a T look to let two people talk to each other both with hearing aids.

So that is why I was looking at bluetooth. If its got wirse it will be knocked out while eating. If I have two bluetooth headsets connected to one phone, I would need an app which recognised that and sent the mic from one to the headset of the other etc. I can't find any apps that do that or understand why that would be needed. any bluetooth device connected to a mobile phone mimics the mic and speaker on the phone.

So now I'm looking for a short distance discreet comms system. The way bluetooth is set up could be used in this way but unless I invest the app from scratch. Not sure why this isn't already a thing?

Is a Sena Expand what you want?

https://www.sena.com/eu-en/product/expand

They have other models but they have boom mics so not idea if eating! Looks to have an intercom mode which uses Bluetooth to pair to other units - looks like it could be done without a phone but perhaps worth an e-mail to Sena to double check.

That looks to be almost exactly what I want, but just not at £169 per headset frown
