Going through changes - new router from BT and son's PC stopping due to dust build up & heat has has a thorough clean

Got everything working again with the new router BUT the PC with it's TP Link dongle cannot find any networks, not even the neighbours. It's flashing green so the USB port is working.

Tried the switching off & on again and different USB ports to no avail.

Do these dongles fail through time, son did say it's been a bit temperamental of late.

Dongles are usually a circuit board soldered to a USB socket and if the hardware fails it's usually at that connection due to fatigue or being bent. They could potentially end up powered or intermittently powered but not properly working. If it can be made to work by applying light pressure up or down then that's your issue.

Had another play with everything, push the dongle into the USB socket, it flashes quickly then settles down to a blink of green. Press really hard and the green light goes out. - Dodgy internal connection?
When the green light is blinking it is supposed to show available network connections but the list is empty.

Been through the limited extents of my knowledge.
The PC and TP Link will detect my phone as a mobile hotspot but cannot detect the BT Router that was installed today along with the little additional BT discs around the house which are all showing blue.
In settings, the PC had all the old Router references but not in the search networks pop up (bottom right hand corner). It was trying to connect to an old extender with an old reference but obviously no internet. I then tried to link the old extender to the new router by WPS buttons but the extender name remained the old one and no internet.
If the TP Link can see my mobile hotspot it would seem as if it's working but why can't it see the BT system?

It's possible the the new network is only being broadcast on 5GHz and the TP Link only supports 2.4GHz?

I don't know which dongle you have but it may be easier (and cheaper) just to get a new one.

sorry the last couple of questions went over my head however I took it into the Computer place that the PC was bought from a few years ago.
He tested it, it worked, then it didn't, then it sort of worked and picked up a passing car!
End result was replace the TPLink with a new/different make wireless connector and a "reset" of various components and it is now working again.
TBH the guy wasn't totally sure what was the main cause but we suspect the wireless connector TPLink was at least partially failing.
