Just been facetiming and whenever i dial up and they answer, my phone switches to 4G and drops off wifi. As soon as i hang up, it rejoins wifi.

Anyone else have this problem?

Iphone12 on the latest ios 16.0.3. With wifi assist off.

Kind of. Mine flicks between Wi-Fi and 4G when I FaceTime. I’ve just been blaming my wifi signal. Sometimes I have to turn Wi-Fi off so it will give me a steady connection.

iPhone XR on iOS 16. I’ve got fast Wi-Fi too.

How have you checked this?
Have you observed the connection from the router itself or just from observing the phone screen?

To be honest, it was only from the phone screen, and not really sure about digging about in technology as that is a bit beyond my comfort level.

After doing a small amount of research, it does seem that this has happened with previous ios versions, and as there was no real resolution posted, i assume various updates sorted the issue.

I might try and turn off cellular data on the next call and see if it just drops the call. At least that way i will know if it really is switching to 4g i guess.

WiFi assist does this for you.
If it uses too much data or is causing you a problem turn it off, otherwise don't worry about it your phone knows what it is doing.

Can't you turn flight mode on and then turn WiFi back on to stop it using 4g?

Android user so not au fait with apple, but that's how I force my phone to use WiFi calling

Mine does this. I switch of data when it does and it is usually fine on the wifi. Done it for years, so annoying.

Mine does this all the ***king time.

Have to turn off mobile data to make it stay on Wi-Fi for a FaceTime call.

Wi-Fi assist doesn’t seem to help either way round.

Thanks Apple…. Grrr!
