Well, not me, my mum.

She has a yahoo.co.Uk email address which she’s had since God was a boy. Unfortunately she never linked a recovery method. The other day she noticed mails weren’t being pushed through to her phone. She went into settings and tried to renter the password but it wouldn’t accept it. We’ve tried the password reset but each time it says it’s either unavailable or to try again in an hour.

She does have access via a PC, but worried that if we try to reset on that and it doesnt work she will permanently lose access…

Any ideas on how we can regain access to the account?

Thanks

ET

How is she accessing it through a PC? Through the web, or through a mail client? If you can access the settings where the password is configured, is it masked?

If so, this may help.

Through a browser. I’ve checked the password, it’s visible, but when I type it into another device it’s not accepted. I’m now worried she’s somehow been hacked frown

Being hacked is quite possible - as there is an email doing the rounds to Yahoo accounts - said email has an attachment that when clicked, launches a perfect facsimile of the Yahoo login prompt - and issues the end user with a message stating that their session has expired and they need to re-enter their password.

Problem is - the code in this attachment sends the username and password to another server for capture. This process is entirely transparent and looks exactly like a Yahoo page.

If she's clicked on that, then this is what has likely happened.

EDIT: The prompts look like the attached images. (you will note that the grammar is poor in the prompt)
