A few months ago I inherited an iPhone X
It’s my first foray into apple product ownership.
The battery now needs replacing.
As my nearest apple store is over an hour away , I was considering using one of the many third party high street repair shops locally.
Is there anything I need to be wary of?

Buy a battery from ReplaceBase and do it yourself?

I’d go to Apple store or their pickup service. Rather than any dodgy backstreet place

I paid £50 to get the battery on my X replaced in 2021 at an established place. They made a complete balls of it and the touch screen and speakers never worked when I got it back. Ended up giving me a mint replacement which I flogged and bought an 11 Pro.

Get it done at the Apple store

Apple charge £69. Doesn't make sense to take it elsewhere really.

Or if your handskills are ok do it yourself.

It's really simple to do, just need decent eyesight and to not rush things.

Wow, i didn't realise it was that cheap for Apple to do it!

You would be mad to let anyone else do it tbf.

My dad has just replaced the battery in his original SE.
He's 83 so I was rather impressed.

A lifetime repairing television probably helped though.

Have watched a couple of YouTube videos and decided that I’ve neither the eyesight nor the finesse for the task.

I’m fine with the £69. It’s just the 2hour plus round trip, £30 of diesel and parking fees I could do without

You can send it in to them instead.

I did it myself when my old X.

I was lucky that the battery had swollen, and pushed the screen out, saving me the hassle of going round the edges to separate the screen.

It was a very fiddly job with some really tiny screws. The hardest part though was getting the old battery out, the tabs that it's stuck down with all broke as opposed to pulling out, so took some hamfisted work to get the battery out.

I think I might have lost a screw in there somewhere, and I didn't bother with a new gasket round the screen. But it all worked nicely when put back together and my kid is using it daily now.

I used the apple service on my Mk1 SE - it was around £50 at the time, they sent a box to return it to them for replacement.

All done through couriers, and returned back within a week or so.
