My workshop was broken into a few evenings ago. Nothing taken (the circumstances are odd and not worth going into here). The area is well lit but in a secluded spot. Building itself has a padlock, entrance was made through an extractor fan duct which has now been boarded up.

Considering options for CCTV, however hamstrung by the following criteria:

1. It's a big, metal box (18x12m). 4G signal is non existant inside when the doors are open. Fine outside.
2. There's no telephone cable, so normal internet is out of the question.
3. We have sufficient 240V to be able to run power with relative ease. No issue to run Cat 5 also.

Effectively I need a solution that is motion activated between non working hours, that will tether to my phone for 4G access when i'm local to check for activity. Not much point in receiving a notification when it's triggered, I live 35min away and there's no one else around.

Basically, we know the culprit but suspect a follow up visit.

Surely the perp will be wise to CCTV and if making a return visit will be wearing the classic combo of hoody, baseball cap and facemask to render ID impossible?

That’s the standard attire for drug dealing scrotes round my way anyway.

You could use an external 4G antenna and 4G router. Is there any WiFi you could use, friendly neighbours?

CCTV, either go for a subscription based service, like Ring, OR you need a standalone system, with a local storage NVR. Something from Hikvision will work, they have the Hikconnect app that is ok.

Installed one of these for a pal in similar circumstances.

Personally I’d run in a cat cable for the network especially if you’ll be bury it in conduit.

If it has to be 4G then modem/routers are available with external antennas.
