Got an email to say my current web host (Gridhost at TSOHost) is being retired next month, so I need to move my web host and email host. It's almost as if someone else asked a very similar question recently ... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Any recommendations as to who to move to? I have my own domain and we have a couple of email addresses in use. I'm only after a very cheap host, no bells and whistles needed, I can migrate my Wordpress website myself and I have a free SSL cert via a 3rd party supplier

The webhost is used for a small village (circa 60-70 house) website, so nothing major at all!! There are a couple of email addresses associated with the different organisations (Church, Village Hall, that sort of thing). We own a domain registered with another company, so that's not an issue.

I've found https://www.ecohosting.co.uk/hosting.html at £25 per year (I currently pay £17.99 via TSOHost) - any other suggestions? A new TSO base contract is £3.99 + VAT so £4.78 pcm or £57.46 per year for comparison.

Seems like they have an email only account at £2 or web as well for £3 inc vat per month. Cheaper IIRC if you pay yearly. Plus fees for your domain names as and when they need renewing.

Thanks - their basic package is only 100Mb webspace - according to my TSO cpanel I'm currently using 968Mb (though there's possibly a lot of redundancy in there at a guess).

Thanks - great suggestion - same price as the one I found but more webspace and email accounts - it's currently in first place!!

The 'locking in' for 36 months would be a worry for me.

They are very knowledgeable, also you can pretty much have as many email accounts as you want if you keep in the storage space.

You can have specific emails have their own mail box or have them forwarded somewhere, then you can have all the other emails sent to you put into another mailbox, so you can check what emails you are getting and if a specific mail address starts getting lots of spam you can just stop it being forwarded so its no longer a problem.

Just drop them a line on their sales email and they should be able to give you answers to the most suitable plan for your use. Pretty sure you can set up a Lets encrypt certificate in the menus as well as setup your email addresses for authentication purposes in the dns records as well.

I've got a personal Wordpress site with StablePoint on their Starter tier - £39/year

https://stablepoint.com/web-cpanel-hosting

All works a treat. You can do the free SSL from inside the cPanel GUI to make life simpler. Can't vouch for the e-mail side though, as I use Office 365 for that.

I use Hostinger for a Wordpress based online store, have had no issues and the costs seem reasonable.

Having read around their website, the only thing going against them at the moment is the lack of telephone support - everything is via email / written correspondence. Now, I've only had to telephone TSO a couple of times since I've been administering the village website, but a quick call is sometimes more convenient than a back and fro via written message.

I've set up enough email mailboxes and POP/IMAP access via Outlook or other email clients etc - all fairly simple - I also manage another villages Council website also but they use a different host, so am reasonably familiar with Wordpress, back end access via cpanel and some of the issues that crop up and having to edit files manually to sort out issues.

Why's it cheaper to be on a sub-host and not on TSO itself? Sorry for the noob question.

They state "Telephone support

We do not offer telephone support and we have no plans to do so. Unlike broadband providers, we are not responsible for your connection to the internet, so you should still be able to email us when things go wrong. Using email allows us to pass your query directly to our engineers, guaranteeing you a helpful and accurate response first time. "

I believe they all work remotely so I'd imagine offering telephone support would be awkward. I believe most of the replys are from the people who do the complicated work rather than having a 1st line support staff member sat around to answer the phone for them.

  • EDIT Interesting, it dropped to £2.65 when I allowed scripts to run on the site.

BlueMR2, whilst I don't see the same pages you are showing, I have now seen that a 12 month contract is £2.65 and a 36 month contract is £4.45 - but I now also can't see the screen I saw earlier - probably a Cookie issue at a guess. I'd guess they both go up to £8.98 after those terms - or whatever their current cost is at that point in time.

I use Stablepoint. Absolutely no dramas. Support is great when I've needed them.

Someone can correct me if I turn out to be talking nonsense, but pretty sure Stablepoint is the current offering from the team that we’re originally behind TsoHost before they sold it.

Correct and Vidahost before that.

I'm in the same position as my tsohosts package is also being retired so I'd be interested in opinions on Stablepoint email. Mine used to be reasonable when it was Vidahost but since it became tsohost our spam mail has gone through the roof. Are Stablepoint email service any good?
