Got an email to say my current email host (Gridhost at TSOHost) is being retired next month, so I need to move my email host.

Any recommendations as to who to move to? I have my own domain and we have several email aliases in use.

I only really ever use this email via Office 365 (Outlook).

I also use them to register my domain, but it is not clear to me whether I need to migrate that as wel..

Do you mind paying for it?

When I decided I didn't like Google reading my emails I migrated from Gmail to Protonmail many years ago and I'd recommend it.

You can add your own domain if you can navigate your way around a few DNS records.

There's a free tier and they regularly have offers making it a few quid a month.

There's also Skiff which is a similar privacy driven service. I've not used it though.

I have a domain name which I use for email as well as web hosting.
I've been with netweaver for ages, seems to cost about £50 a year plus something to nominet every two years?

If you don't want the free gmail then proton mail usually gets good recommendations.

I've been with Fastmail for a good few years and am happy with how their service works.

Ditto. Really good service. I mainly access through a mail client (Apple Mail) but the web app and iOS app are both great too.

I use IONOS for email. I've been with them since they were 1and1 (over 20 years now).

They no longer provide the deal I'm on (5 email addresses + unlimited forwarding) for a few pence a month plus Nominet fees. I got a similar deal for my daughter but it was a bit more a month.

Their cheapest deal at the moment is £1.00 per month but not as generous.

The thing with this is £50 is a good chunk of what an Office 365 Subscription costs, it's actually more than you would pay for a single license if your employer has signed up to the Home Use Program.

You get a lot more for your money if you use O365 to host your email, before considering that it includes lots of desktop Software as well. You can add a single domain on the Personal plans to cover that aspect too.

If you've no particular aversion to Microsoft it's worth bearing in mind.

If I’m reading this correctly you’re telling me that I can host my domain within Office 365? That might work well! Will have a look into that

No - your domain will stay with TSOhost. However, you then move your mail service to Microsoft. You will add some records to the DNS servers at TSOhost to make sure your mail will be sent to MS for processing.
I have just moved a website from TSOhost to Krystal, transfered over my DNS settings for the mail and did the lot in about 40 mins.

I've been caught with this. It's a proper pain in the rear end.

Yeah, you stay paying your £10 a year to the domain registration service and modify the records.

What I meant was because you can add the domain to O365 to carry on using your me@595Heaven.com email address you aren't left needing to pay for an email host to forward to an Office 365 email inbox, so you offset that saving against the Office 365 subscription and you're talking about £20 a year for all the other stuff Office 365 gives you.

The family subscription is limited to one domain, but it's 6 licenses and 6tb of storage, so if you have several people involved that's potentially even better value.

Thirded! I've had a Fastmail account for almost twenty years now. Still a happy customer.

Took advantage of the lovely Sunday weather to sort this.

Went with Stablepoint in the end. All sorted...

Just a quick update on this…

Realised yesterday that I hadn’t had any email since Saturday from my StablePoint hosted account. Tried to log in to their website but was prevented from doing so by a new 2FA pop up that asked me to use my Authenticator app to get a six digit code. My Microsoft Authenticator gave me an 8 digit code!

After a number of chat messages where I was told to log in to turn off the 2FA. Eventually they realised the issue with what they were asking me to do and turned it off for me. I could then login but saw no error messages. Tried to get into the webmail app only for it to fail due to a ‘System user has exceeded its allotted quota of disk blocks’

This suggested my mailbox was full, but the person on chat said it was fine.

Tried again later and spoke to a different person on the chat who did actually agree the mailbox was full, and to log in to reduce the size…

I CANNOT LOG IN FFS!

Much less than impressed with the service / quality of support. Surely if I was getting towards filling my mailbox they should have sent me a warning email or something.

It looks like I am c. 500Mb over my 1Gb limit (which feels a bit small) so clearly this issue has been present for some time without them giving me any warning. Seems odd to not send any prompts.

TL;DR StablePoint support is a bit hopeless and I needed to rant!

I had a similar issue same as you last year - Gridhost closing down, bit it was my host as well as email. I went with Mythic Beasts and have had no issues since I migrated. Website (little village one) working well and multiple email accounts working fine. Worth taking a look at them. https://www.mythic-beasts.com/

Thanks for the reply!

I gave up on Webchat and manages to speak to someone.

Confirmed that they don't send out any warning if you are approaching or exceeding your quota which seems mad.

Only way forward was to upgrade to a package with more storage which I've done. Emails now flowing again, but any sent to me since Saturday are permanently lost. Marvellous.

Will take a look at Mythic Beasts
