Sky Puck/Streaming box
Discussion
I see these are launching in October, Sky Glass without the TV.
I find this a tempting proposition after paying a small fortune to SKY over the last 25 years.
How does Glass compare to my HD+ box which to be fair has been a truly superb piece of kit but is now showing its age.
I have an excellent 70+ mbs connction so I'm guessing it will run ok.
Any reason to be skeptical?

Well it’s not as there isn’t any Sky app on the ATV and the NowTV app is rubbish.
Back o/t, the main holdback will be the lack of recording facility (as per Sky Glass) which for some people is a real dealbreaker.
So is this a super charged NOW app in effect?Back o/t, the main holdback will be the lack of recording facility (as per Sky Glass) which for some people is a real dealbreaker.
Not very bothered about recording as nearly everything is available on catch up.

It should be a fully fledged Sky UI with a proper guide and planner etc. which is the whole thing that NowTV has always lacked (hence the cheaper price) - I haven’t seen it yet though so I’m just making an educated guess. Not very bothered about recording as nearly everything is available on catch up.

It apparently launches on the 18th so not long to wait.blingybongy said:

After moving to a house that couldn't have a Sky dish we went for Apple TV and stream everything, Now tv is pretty poorly laid out (presumably to keep people going for the full cost Sky). It depends a lot on price for me, if they are going to charge loads like Sky do then I wouldn't bother personally as I don't think it's value for money.I find this a tempting proposition after paying a small fortune to SKY over the last 25 years.

Our internet isn't particularly great as we live in a village but streaming the tv has always been fine.
I'm a Sky glass customer and the TV is woeful. If I could have had the puck and kept my Samsung I would have. Infact, I'd have likely just kept Sky Q and been able to record stuff.
The streaming experience is okay and is getting better but don't rely on wifi, most of the issues you see people moaning about are fixed as soon as you move to a cable and have a reliable connection.

My router is onlyabout 2 feet away from my TV so I have it attached by cable now.The streaming experience is okay and is getting better but don't rely on wifi, most of the issues you see people moaning about are fixed as soon as you move to a cable and have a reliable connection.

NowTV integrates fully with the Apple TV on the latest update, lets you watch the exact same shows as Sky and doesn't cost a £39 setup fee.Back o/t, the main holdback will be the lack of recording facility (as per Sky Glass) which for some people is a real dealbreaker.
I wouldn't switch back to Sky now.
