New phone on the way, case ordered of course. Not sure whether to bother with a screen protector.

Do you use one and why (not)?

Never had one on previous phones, and never really noticed any issues. Just the odd micro scratch which you barely notice. Although I have found on my current phone which is now two years old that it fingerprints and screen becomes oily really easily.

I didn't put one on my phone, then one day put it into a pocket with my keys and now it has a deep 1" scratch. :-(

I did put one on my son's phone, he's taken it to school every day (COVID permitting) and he just took it off as there were some bubbles under it and the screen is perfect. I think we'll replace it!

No case, no screen protector. So it gets a few scratches. So what.

I’ve never bothered with a screen protector. I’m just careful never to put it in a pocket with coins or keys.

I have small children who are prone to picking up and dropping things.
I've replaced shattered or cracked glass screen protectors on both mine and my wife's phone on average every six months.
Pretty much mandatory in this house.

I used to lead a charmed life with mobile devices, but no more. The first straw was dropping an unprotected IPad Air 2 on a tiled floor, just out of the AppleCare window and then seeing the cost of replacement screens!

Current phone case a bit slippier than the last. Dropped it face first onto tarmac and the glass screen protector was obliterated. £10 well spent, and makes no difference to use ability!

Pretty much always used a protector, easily replaced, to remove the micro scratches they regularly pick up with me.

But I’m pretty rough with my phones so pick up songs and marks often, but they get handed down to the kids every two years anyway.

Fresh case and protector for them and off they go.

Same. I'm not massively careful, but also not a klutz.

My youngest daughter however has military grade case and tempered glass protector. She came home earlier "I dropped my phone but its just the screen protector that's broken". Thankfully I have spares, so new protector fitted.

I did the same so I always put a protector on now.

I've dropped my phone numerous times and the screen protector has cracked. Would the actual screen have cracked without a protector? Who knows, but for the sake of a few pounds I'd rather have a protector than not.

I have an iPhone 4S, 6, 8 and 13.

All with screen protectors from new.

All still like new.

At £2 a go it's a no brainer.

My S20 came with a protector already installed. I didn't realise and thought it was a shipping protection and peeled it off. Screen is still fine though.

I wonder if iPhones are particularly fragile. I've always had Samsungs and wife and kids always had iphones. Theirs always end up cracked and none of mine have.

Just stuck a screen and camera thing on Miss21's new iphone thing. If it helps why not? God knows what the new iphone is to replace.

Yes - until Corning start using me to test their products, I will not believe they cannot be scratched in day to day use.

Can't find one that fits properly for my p30 Pro, so I'll be going barefront with a case. They don't sit right with the curved edges.

Yes as I buy my phone's sim free, i have small kids and they sometimes throw my phone around while not looking, other times I've had something in the same pocket as my phone and when sitting down its squashed against the screen.

Broke 2 screen protectors recently and I'm just glad I had them or else I'd be looking at costly screen replacements, I also use a TPU case for the rest of the phone.

Always buy my phones sim free, I always buy the thinnest gel case possible as find most phones slippy to hold these days.. apart from that no screen protector.

A few years ago I did fit a "privacy screen" where the screen was black if not looking directly at it, but it shattered after a few months.

I always put a screen protector on, from brand new, straight from the box. It's the first thing I do, before even setting up.

They generally last the life of the phone, can't be seen and the phone can be sold in an 'as new' condition when I buy a new one.

Case, yes. Screen protector, no. Nothing ever gets put in the same pocket as my phone, it's always put down screen-up and ever since my first phone I have never scratched a screen but I live a mostly indoor 'soft' life so the risk is low.

Scarred protector yes, case not anymore.

Scratches and marks on the body don’t bother me but something across the screen would annoy me PDQ!
