Anyone tried (or know anyone who's tried) these? Mrs ZS suffers from cold hands, just wondering if these electric ones are very effective? Do they give out much heat? Does the battery last for long, and how long do they take to recharge? I'm talking about the £20-30 ones you see on Amazon, etc.

I remember years ago you could get gel type ones which you had to boil to "recharge" but that's a bit of a PITA, and isn't much help if we're out and about and just wants a few minutes from them to get some circulation going.

On a similar note, "electric hot water bottles"... any better than the traditional ones?

I bought an electric one from Amazon when it was on offer - they warm up nicely but unfortunately the battery life doesn't seem to be much.

On the decent heat setting it was only lasting an hour, the lower setting not really warm enough.

I've had the chemical handwarmers which aren't too bad, but cost a bit.

The gel ones you warm up in a pan give initial heat but I found they didn't last long at all - only 10 minutes and you have to spend ages heating them back up.

Fully heated rechargeable gloves are best, but over £100 for the good ones and the battery life is only a couple of hours.

not rechargeable in the electric sense, but have a look at ‘zippo’ hand warmers. you fill it with lighter fluid and light the little catalyst converter thing and pop the lid back on. it slowly burns the lighter fluid without a dangerous flame and gets nice and toasty.

you can ‘switch it off’ by popping the catalyst bit off of the lighter fuel which puts it out, and can re-light later.
