Macbook Pro backups
Discussion
I've got two USB backup drives (Buffalo and WD) and the last two Time Machine backups have been an issue that happens on both drives. The weekly backup used to take about 20 mins on each but now seems to take all night. I started a backup at 7am this morning and it now seems to have stalled at 1.2gb and says there is still 12 hours to go. This happens on both the Buffalo and the WD and I first thought that maybe the drives are failing but it's a bit of a coincidence that it's happened to both drives at the same time.
Any one else having Time Machine backup issues? My Macbook is a mid-2014 running Big Sur.
Edit: Still sitting at 1.2gb and now 20 hours remaining!

Seems to be a fairly common issue

Well, that was a no-go. The backup file suggested does not exist anywhere on the macbook or the external drive.
I've had a look around on the web and there was one person on there that had exactly the same symptoms and he did everything to buying and reformatting a completely new backup drive and still no joy, what he did in the end was to re-install the version of OSX that he was using and that seemed to fix the problem, I don't really want to do that at this stage, it does seem that there are very limited options for backup software for OSX other than Time Machine as most of them seem to be backing up to some sort of cloud service which I don't want to do as I travel quite a bit so a portable hard drive is the best solution for me.
