HP Laptop bought July 2021 from Currys it started playing up about April time...15 mins plus to load windows. Train sim running slow etc
Took it back to Currys in June and they 'fixed it

Same problems now reappearing from clicking on a file on the HD and selecting ohoto takes 45 secs when it decides to load, get flue error messages sometimes.
I would consider this now to be unmechantable goods and I don't want Currys convincing me the the Gtee has run out and they have cannot do anything and I have to shell out cash Is there something about a 6 year clause that would cover this.i?
I would like to know what rights I have and be able to quote them in a very calm manner, dont believe that banging desks and shouting gets you anywhere just need to be firm and explaint what they or HP responsibilities are

Have you established that the laptop has a hardware issue & if so can you evidence that to the retailer?

If not, are you willing to accept it could be a software issue?

If so that is outside of the vendors remit.

BTW how’s the website development going?

Why don’t you reinstall windows? That could fix the problem.

Will be seeing someone face to face to give us some help on Wordpress

The laptop came withe Win 10, which microsoft microsoft kept on at me to upgrade to Win 11

I have a 2007 MIcrosoft Office which has been working perfectly until last night when i have to around the houses to get Excel up and running

The only other non MSD progs i ve installed is Train simulator ( again worked faster after the jult fix
Videopad Video editor
Corel Paintshop
Macaffee protection
VTS media player

Cannot reinstall windows as no back up supplied with the machine. HOWEVER they did say the it had to be rebuilt to get it running

I am now getting the following

on start up Black screen with a blue box that says

There is a problem with trusted platform modular(TPM) data

Press Y to resetwhole TPM

Press N to preceed with windows

NOTE BitLocker may require the recovery key to boot to windows

I have been pressing N

What would happen if i press Y

What is BitLocker

What and where is the recovery key? Bearing in mind i do not ha a recovery disc at all

Shall i remove all the non MS progs? or even all progs?

Would be rather p155ed of if both Currys and HP tell me it isnt their problem and i end up with a 700GBP borked laptop just over 15 months old

You don't need any media to reset windows. If you do it's easy to download windows 10 or 11. If you have signed into a Microsoft account your window reg key will be stored on your account and setup when you sign back in after resetting.

Check this out https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/factory-reset-windows... not sure how good the advice is as I have not tried following it but guess its OK.

TPM can normally be setup in Bios, google how to make sure it is setup for your machine.

Unfortunately it has been the computers owners responsibility to create recovery media & keys when setting up a new computer for quite some years now.

So in the absence of these I can only suggest. That if you are unsure if you configured bitlocker when commissioning the new pc, you could try (if you have access to another computer) to create a windows 11 recovery usb or just a windows 11 install usb.

If you don’t or aren’t confident then I suggest finding a local repair shop to look at it for you. I’d also recommend changing all account passwords upon its return.

if your computer boots after you say N to using TPM (i.e. you bypass it) then you don't have disk encryption keys in the TPM (probably).

Do you have another computer and an 8Gb+ USB stick? Create a Windows 11 install USB: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/...

Is your data all backed up to OneDrive?

I'd also recommend completely uninstalling that crappy piece of McAfee malware.

What size SSD is in there - as I'm just wondering if it's small and getting anywhere near capacity (which will slow it down).

Also, you didn't NEED to install W11 - yes you we shown the prompts/adverts from Microsoft, but you could have safely ignored them.

I was going to say that too - never seen good results with that or Norton on people's computers. Father-in-Law had Rapport for identity security that he got from Natwest (they've stopped offering it now) and that murdered his compluter.

I wonder whether having such an old version of Office might be causing problems?

Roll back to Windows 10. That sorted my laptop that developed issues after the Windows 11 upgrade. I then turned those upgrade nags off (lots of tutorials on the web how do to this), and it only applies Win 10 patches now.

Generally, the device manufacturer has to support the Win 11 upgrade with driver and bios updates for proper stability. Not sure what HP model you have, but its worth looking up. If HP won’t support Win 11 on your laptop properly, don’t upgrade.

My tablet has had issues. Twice its had the battery replaced in a year. The year warranty is up now but I asked at the time what to do when it goes again since a new battery isn't fixing the issue longer than a month and it'll be out of warranty. He said because I live in Scotland electronics have an expected life of 5 years. Phone customer service and go for an out of warranty repair and they won't fix but they'll partial refund it. Closer to the 1 year the more you get. Just waiting to test if it works when the tablet dies again.

This was also all in currys.
