I have pretty bad lighting when wfh when it comes to video calls, and i've currently got an led lamp above my monitor, which lights up my face partially but is more 'looking down' at 45 degrees rather than lighting up my face evenly, so I want something better. I was thinking of getting one of those ring lights but then i'd have to have that in front of the monitor, obscuring it's view. Also seen those bar type lights that go above your monitor, but that might also not light up things evently.

What do you use as a video call lamp if you have a large widescreen monitor? Some soft lighting would be great that lights up my face and stops it looking like i'm calling from a dungeon would be great (I currently work in an almost broom cupboard like area in the house biggrin )

LED light strip stuck around the outside of the monitor ? Or maybe behind & reflecting off the wall behind if it's a neutral colour ?

Get two of the vlogger lamps and put one on each side of your monitor - or one really big one that you can fit your monitor inside?

Buy a webcam with better low-light performance (or that has hardware/software to let you adjust this)?

Elgato Key Light, for example, comes with a telescopic pole so it can be raised over the monitor

Neewer video light - pointing upwards at the ceiling above me.

This particular one is unavailable but there are other similar ones on Amazon.

I have a multicolour LED strip light behind my monitor. Gives more light that is more diffused than a ring light or similar and has a switch screwed to the bottom of my desk so I can turn on and off easily. Also has the bonus I can use it as more ambient light in the room when working and it’s a bit darker in winter.

Cheers for the great suggestions. Have ordered a couple of Elgato Key light Air's so lets see how they work out.

I actually use an angled Neewer ring light with softbox diffuser cover.

Reality was it was put in place partly as temporary storage as it was bought for surround lighting, replacing four LED panels.

However, it worked so well here and was a bit of a PITA to take out and back that I left it in place and went back to using the panels rolleyes
(actually I do use it for it's original purpose occasionally, but it does work really well for video call lighting on it's lowest setting).

If you've got a large widescreen monitor open up a couple of blank word documents or something and lob them to either side of your MS teams or whatever.

£214 actually, and it's a lot of money yes. I got them due to the recommendation here and the reviews - if they last me a few years on video calls lighting my ugly mug then it's probably worth it biggrin

Do you think there is a market on OnlyFans for dad bods that aren't that powerfully built? You might do better on it than me
