Wondering if anyone else has had similar problems…

We have a Sony Bravia KD55XF8796 which decided to just turn itself off whilst we were watching. Powered down without anyone near the remote and was not a power cut/socket issue as other items plugged into the same wall socket were still working.

I have swapped the fuse from the plug out and tried a few different fuses but nothing happens.

I have tried plugging directly into two different wall sockets, with different fuses and still nothing.

I changed the batteries in the remote and also trying to power on via the power button on the unit itself but again no action at all.

There was no smell of burning or anything when it turned off, the only thing I did nothing was a high-pitched ringing noise which lasted about 10-15 minutes after the TV went off.

It’s not a regularly used TV and is only four years old - seems annoying if it’s dead.

Any suggestions?

There are a few power supply boards on eBay for <£20 - will just be plug in once you’ve got the back off.
Worth a try?

I don't have that exact TV (I have an AF9)...but have you removed the kettle plug end from the TV for 30secs?

Mine did this a few weeks ago. Unplugging the kettle plug and then reseating everything sorted it.

This one doesn’t have a kettle plug, it’s ‘hardwired’ into the back. I have unplugged it from the wall though, and tried doing a hard reset also but there just seem to be no power getting into the important parts.

I think it’s probably the control board as mentioned above

Had the same issue with ours. It sometimes turns itself off. Hasnt done it for a while, never got to the bottom of it though looking on the net its quite common.

Might be worth ringing Sony - we've got a 65XE9305 which failed with a similar issue a couple of years back. Looked into it and Sony were aware of the problem and had extended the warranty on that part to 5 years.

Engineer was out a couple of days later, fitted the new power board and it's been right as rain since.

Thanks for the tip. I had same problem with this model Sony, got a power board from ebay, £35, 10 mins and it was fixed.
