Apologies if this isn't allowed here but my other half's computer had the following error massage this morning and her email and internet browsers were shut down -

'Error message is from backgroundTaskHost.exe-system error' 'the system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this application'.

She is running Windows 10.

Is this anything she should worry about or it just a restart and carry on?

Any help appreciated.

My gut feeling would be 99.9% likely to be badly written standard software, and 0.1% suspicious activity.

What software was she running at the time, any new software she'd installed recently?

Thanks for your reply, she hadn't downloaded any new software recently. Firefox, word, adobe and Microsoft Outlook were running when it shut down Firefox and Outlook overnight, but she wasn't at the computer when it did that.

Many thanks.
Yes, I suppose she could have googled it, but we all know that PH is a much more reliable source of knowledge!
