Not that I can really afford it, but I just checked Amazon just in case and seems they’re still not readily available!

Will the PS6 need to be released before I can get a PS5?

Ah ok, so they are about. If I decide I can afford it good to know it’s possible.

It's been ridiculously hard to get one (for RRP). Given that they were launched almost 2 years ago, but I do believe they're starting to become available.

Was it the chip shortage that caused it then?

They aren't difficult to get hold of. I think people who haven't picked up a PS5 by now are getting turned off the idea. RRP is going up 6% even though the hardware is two years old and there still aren't many games that make use of it. Anecdotally a couple of friends who managed to get PS5s have subsequently built gaming PCs. Feels like Sony is slipping behind.

It’s only really the newest version of The Last of Us that’s tempting me to get one even though I completed it on the ps4. I’d happily play it again and so might make sense to play the ps5 version. A lot of money to replay a game though

I registered to get one on the Sony website.

A few weeks later, I got an email giving me a window in which I could purchase (at RRP of course)

Ordered in that window, delivered next day. Job jobbed

Im in that mind set now, tried to get one when they first released as spent a lot of time playing cod with mates with us not being able to do much else after work in covid times.
Some in stock at my local cex atm but can't see the point of spending £500 just to play cod and maybe gran turismo out of the latest games they have brought out. Shall wait for the hype and prices to drop off and pick up a gta bundle when it eventually arrives.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Sony have just increased the price...

I registered to get one on the Sony website back in April.

I heard nothing.

Yet friends have registered and like you, got an email invitation within a few weeks.

It does say on the website that registering does not guarantee that you’ll get an invitation, so maybe I’m just unlucky.

Assuming you are on PS Plus (or maybe even just have a PSN account) keep an eye on incoming email from Sony as they will occasionally send an invite to buy a PS5. It's not guaranteed but they give a link and a time and it seems like if you get there on time, you will get one .. going by what I can tell, anyway.

I noticed just such a link buried in the folder where I redicrect anything coming from Sony or Microsoft accounts to, recently. Weeks after the fact but I wouldn't have bothered anyway as I'm committed to the PC now. However it would have been pretty annoying if I had been trying to get a PS5 ... biggrin

There are a few places you can keep an eye out for stock watching on twitter which is how I got mine last year. They do still seem hard to get hold of which is surprising.

rsv gone!

Same here. I think I got the email in 5-6 weeks, back in March.
