Any suggestions on a good way to be able to plug instruments (electric guitar or external mics) into a Mac to allow recording?

Loads on interfaces about, depends on budget!

I have an iRig that is very portable and works well and is simple. Less than £100.
FocusRite scarlet 4 (I think) have both the guitar and mic inputs etc. and don’t cost the earth. £100-£200

If for proper serious music recordings/production then search the internet for reviews as appropriate, from from hundred £ to thousands £ if going for proper studio biggrin

Put “ usb audio interface” into Amazon and you’ll get a wide range of options - just need to check it has instrument level input (normally called instrument or “high-z”) as well as mic input

if you just want a cheap and cheerful approach, an trig adapter will plug into the microphone/headphone socket, I use a Komplete Audio 6 which comes with Ableton Live10 software which i prefer over the GarageBand that is free on Mac

I would suggest that you buy a Focusrite USB interface to suit your needs, and then look at Amplitube to make it sound like you want:

A Helix into Logic on the Mac gives superb recorded tones.

I have Logic Pro and running a Mac Studio, so I guess USB-C/Thunderbolt is the connectivity I'm after.

USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter works fine if needed.
