Disk Management - changing drive letter
Discussion
I removed the D: drive and wanted to rename the E: drive to D: but it won't let me. Any thoughts?
Update:
Silly me.
I removed the D: drive but plugged the DVD drive in and because the new drive was M:, the DVD drive assumed the D: assignment.
Renamed the DVD to E: and was able to rename the new drive as D:.
Thanks, all!

Few possibilities.
D is assinged to a removable device that isn't currently connected.

Some software that's running is on the E drive so you can't rename it.
D: was a HDD that's been shelved (it started failing and getting really hot!).D is assinged to a removable device that isn't currently connected.

There's only one account on this PC. I can rename it to every other spare letter. It was M: and now E: but I want it to be D:.
E: contains files I've created and isn't linked to from anything as far as I'm aware.
Thanks.
