I can view the D drive in Powershell (admin) using the usual DOS commands to navigate but it says access denied when I try to view it in File Manager. My login is Administrator.

Any suggestions?

I've already tried to take ownership of every file on D.

Thanks.

Edit: I suspect it's due to a very recent update. The only way I could get to a usable PC was by using a new instance of Windows on a spare SSD that's already installed in the system. I cannot boot into the D drive which was originally the C drive. I just get the spinning dots.

Edit 2: Decided to put the second post with the OP.

It looks like the update has only half installed so it shut down to start the install and normally it would start up and complete the install but it gets stuck. I can't reverse the install as it says I have a pending update action so it can't uninstall the latest qualty update. It suggests using the Startup Repair but that doesn't work either.

I think I'll have to reset the thing.

30% in and it failed to reset.

Guess I will have to use the new SSD and somehow get control of the D drive (was C).

Edit 3: I can only access the D drive with Powershell (admin version) and not File Explorer. Any suggestions?

Thanks. Have done Solution 1 about 10 times with variations to no effect. Will try Solution 3.

Try this, which has worked for me on several occasions

Thanks, both.

Sorted. Dunno why I couldn't do this through Windows itself ie File Explorer or by changing ownership in the advanced screen.

Just to clarify in case anyone else has this problem: I tried all the Windows-based solutions several times. The only thing that made a difference was doing it in DOS under admin profile. The DOS route was the only thing I hadn't tried before getting on PH.
