I bought some cheap crap RJ45 plugs when wiring my house and all the tabs are breaking off now at the switch end
Is there a really good quality one out there? How about the ones where the cables pass through the plug itself, makes rewiring them look quite easy are they any good?

Excel brand ones are pretty decent.

I use the pass through type and they are much quicker to wire and crimp, not having to worry about getting the ends laid out and all the right length. I’ve never suffered a clip break but at the same time I tend to patch things in and then leave them, what are you doing that means you are constantly moving them around?

That's a good shout too, the pass-through type make life a fair bit easier.

Not the question you asked, but if this is where a selection of cables from around your house meet at the switch, is a patch panel an option?
I put one of these in my utilities cupboard and then bought a pack of ready made 1m cables to link it to the switch. Really easy to wire up with just a punch down tool.
