My daughter has found an old IPad 4 at home, which she would like to use for accessing the internet. Realise it is far from state of the art, but I would like to update the IOS on there from the current 8.4.1 (!!)

A bit of googling tells me we can get to 10.3.3.. however what’s the best way of getting it on to device, without impacting all of the other IPads and IPhones that are running the modern software?

Thanks

Just see what updates are available in settings->general->software update and install them. It won't affect any other apple devices, the only time that can happen is if you are running a Beta and update something like photos

Thanks both. I was concerned that if I download the software on to my Mac (to then load on to the iPad 4) it might corrupt the newer devices next time I sync them..

Nah, the OS downloads are model specific and it doesn’t do downgrades.

It won’t. You also don’t need to sync via your Mac anymore.

I should say, iPad 4 is the cut off before iPads and iOS went full 64bit. I have an iPad 4 and lots of apps don’t work on it.

If you are just doing random surfing, its still very useable.

I’d be wary of putting through credit card details or doing internet banking as it will be unpatched.

Its also worth untethering your iOS devices from your laptop and iTunes. If you need to back them up, iCloud is seamless and a lot more convenient.
