I use the Reminder App on iOS and find it brilliant.
What’s the best Android equivalent?
Looking to recommend one for my Dads Samsung S8+
Edited to add - He’s pretty tight, so Free or small one off payment only. No recurring fees
I'm not au fait at all with the ios app, on Android I just use the Google assistant in combination with Google calendar for reminders/events/appointments etc. What’s the best Android equivalent?

Chees Steve. Reminders is very much dedicated to just that, a bit like making notes on a bit of paper, with times to do them.
I’ve used calendars and it will do it, but just not quite as good for this specific task.

This, 'Hey Google, remind me to put out the bins at 7am tomorrow'
Works every time.
Again, that works in a simplified fashion. I’ve used Siri and Alexa for the odd thing, but really wanting a dedicated reminder app. Works every time.
There’s lots on the App store, so just wondering if anyone has used any of them.

Reminders can be just reminders - a bit of text and a date/time. If you want that, then I think Google is best, especially with Voice reminders.
But a reminder is always for something, either an event or a task. If you want to create events and tasks and set reminders that flow naturally from those, then I think Microsoft's To Do app is better than anything Google has, but I've not tried any alternatives to those two.
To Do does a great job of letting you create organised task lists, shared lists, recurring tasks. It integrates stuff like flagged emails, tasks others have assigned to you, or tasks from all over your lists with deadlines. There's a neat feature that prompts you to plan your day and suggests stuff you didn't do earlier, stuff with deadlines etc, so you end up with everything in one place, without being overwhelmed by hundreds of things that never get done.
Then your reminders themselves just flow from that and your calendar app.
It depends how organised you want to be, I've got so busy that I forget to do stuff if I don't write it down, so To Do is probably my most used app these days.

I've got mine set in the Calendar as a rolling reminder, recycling bin is every two weeks on a Thursday, standard rubbish is every three weeks on a Monday, and it sends me a notification (or email or both if set) at 5pm the day before else I'd never remember (and I like being the street bindicator!)
Don’t get me wrong, nothing wrong with setting reminders in calendar or Google. They work.I guess it’s down to the UI which is more dedicated to this one simple task.

Ha ha, that's almost exactly how I deal with the bins, though my neighbours are far keener, so I'm never out first. I have it setup in Tasks though rather than Calendar, it feels more like a task than an event. Google gives you the option to show your Reminders on your Calendar, which then give you the flexibility to do it either way.

Is your priority how the reminders get set? Or reviewing what's coming up? I presume it's not getting the reminder, as they all just ping the Android Notification stack however you set that up.I guess it’s down to the UI which is more dedicated to this one simple task.
Google has a Widget that's a button for your Home Screen that opens up a new Reminder, or the voice command is decent, especially if you have the Google Nest devices. Microsoft lets you add that widget to the bottom of the Notification bar, which is dead handy. Neither is really any different to use, same number of clicks to add text and the date time etc.
Don't think there's much in it in terms of seeing what's coming up, Google is better if you want to put reminders on your calendar, I think Microsoft scales better with more reminders coming from more complicated lists.

Just had a quick look and it seems to do everything that I want and possibly more.
Dads downloaded it on his phone and seems quite happy to explore further. He also uses his Microsoft Surface a lot so seems it will link quite happily with that.
Could be a winner

Are you sure there isn't one there already? My Note 9 has an app called 'Reminder' and I though the S8+ I had before also had the same app.
I can set reminders based on date / time, or when I leave or arrive at a destination.
I've always used google calendar but just had a look and my Samsung has a reminder app that I didn't even know was there, just had to search for it as it wasn't automatically showing in the apps drawer.I can set reminders based on date / time, or when I leave or arrive at a destination.
