Any broadband nerds about?
Discussion
Nerds in a nice way ie a damn sight cleverer than me and not sure the lounge is the right place for this??
Anyway. Been without broadband since the country burned on Tuesday. I’m with Talktalk, not sure if I’m on full fibre or not.
Countless calls and live chats with them going over the same bks every time. Turns out that between the cabinet and me the lines fine.
Done all the router troubleshooting at least 4 times, no joy.
Lots of people in my area (semi rural) have no broadband either with various suppliers and I’ve seen a fair few openreach vans parked up in the area.
But….I can watch Netflix on my smart tv, but nothing else. Phones, iPad, Alexa and PS5 (wired) don’t work!
How is that possible???

It can't be, because to watch Netflix you need an internet connection, only thing I can think you have is a DNS issue, which Netflix app on your smart TV can work around.
Either see if you can setup Broadband Quality Monitor to monitor your internet connection or see if you can change the DNS settings on the router to see if that fixes the issue.
TalkTalk DNS
Google DNS

Google DNS
This feels like a DNS problem, with a smart tv possibly ignoring what’s provided by your router.
Try using a Google server. https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns
Also try pinging something by it’s IP address instead of host name.

Have you actually looked at the broadband section of your router config to see if it is connected? if it is then it will be something like DNS you need to check the network status of your devices it should tell you what DNS it is using and what the IP address is. let us know what they are and it should be easier to tell what is happening.
Also if you are using the ISP’s free router, its well worth replacing it with a decent one. It’s always my first port of call. Last time I was on talktalk, 10 years back mind, they gave me a Huawei router that cost £10. It was always giving me connectivity issues, so I replaced it with a well reviewed modem router that cost about £180. Problem solved. The connection never gave me issues again.
What did talktalk give you? Make and model?
Also did you connect new devices recently? Are you a multi device household? Cheaper routers can struggle processing multiple streams.

Yes can connect everything to Wi-Fi and PS5 is connected via Ethernet cable.
And is the PS5 working on the internet? But the point of connecting a laptop via LAN cable was to access the router management page via cable if the laptop didn’t connect via WiFi. It seems your WiFi connections to the router is OK, but not the connection from the router to the internet.Get into the router management page (it’s usually a web page hosted inside the router accessed via the routers IP address e.g. http://192.168.1.254/ ) and check the system log, connection log for any errors or clues and if nothing seems obviously wrong, try resetting the router to the factory default.
I had exactly the same issue about 6 months ago! Also with talktalk, Netflix worked but nothing else did. I can't be any help I'm afraid as it resolved itself overnight. I even recorded a video of it as it was so weird I didn't think they'd believe me when I contacted them. I'd love to know what was going on in the background, Netflix must do something different with it's connection.
It's not puzzling really, your isp connects to a Netflix server which has a copy of the films on it. Surfing the net uses a different path, sounds like a dns issue (change to 8.8.8.8) in your router settings, if still no good it sounds like an isp config problem. At least being able to watch Netflix proves your physical connection is ok.
