My Talktalk Internet and phone line went down yesterday at about 11am, so is coming up for 24hrs. I live in Northampton, pay for fibre - cant remember the speed, maybe 150? Never had any issues tbh.

I've been on the "live test" thing on their website and it says there's a problem. Tried phoning up and just get an automated message saying:

"We are aware of issues in your area and are doing everything in our power to fix them. As soon as we have any updates we will text you".

I WFH full time so am dependant on home internet. Due to the work I do I'm reliant on large data volumes, a live VPN and a remote license server. Trying to operate over a mobile 4G tether isn't a solution. Suppose I couldve gone into the office but an hour drive each way and no guarantee of a desk anyway (usually have to prebook office space) made that less appealing. And I thought "can't be more than a few mins!".

I'm supposed to be on holiday next week but looks like I'll need to do at least half a day's work as I promised to get a few things done prior to my hols, which obvs aren't done. Sigh.

Don't really know what the point of this thread is really apart from having a bit of a whinge.

My talktalk has been down since Tuesday in Essex! They are the worst company to try and speak to.
Blatant lies from their overseas call centre staff and I’ve even been cut off twice during calls to them (I wasn’t being aggressive and both times it was when I said I’d leave oddly)
Absolute wkers! Hope yours gets sorted.

Shared office space
Cafe / pub / hotel with free wifi

I think you’re also underestimating the 4G potential here too. I did some work in and around Northampton a few years ago and was speed testing at 250mb+ dl and 100mb+ ul regularly …. It to mention 5G, yeah you’ll have a lower ping latency but it’ll work ok - as a temporary solution.

Did you go with Talktalk because there was no other option or because it was the cheapest?

Update to this thread -

We were back online again about 7pm last night. So out for circa 32hrs.

We've been with talktalk for a good few years.... in fact, 7years now I come to think of it. Two houses, various speeds, and used to have mobile with them too.

We've only had two issues in that time. This time ive noticed their customer service and ability to speak to someone has deteriated considerably, and that annoyed me.

That’s one of the really issues that the wfh trend hasn’t fully addressed. Domestic internet doesn’t come with any kind of uptime guarantee - it’s one of the mean reasons why a business line is so much more expensive

If wfh on a regular basis, then an failover system is pretty important. In my case the router will switch to a Vodafone 5G connection to give me acceptable internet for work-related activities.
