I've never had a smart watch but feel like finally catching up with technology on that front.
I have alway worn G-Shock watches, has anyone experience of the G-Shock smart?

Nope, sorry
Have a Samsung watch and I would not be without it now
With phones being so big, it's so easy just to look at the watch to see who's calling, emailing etc rather than digging out the phone from my pocket
All smart watches take a bit of adjusting to, some of my mates never "got" the idea
Try it, you might like it

For the money I would be buying a garmin Felix and not a G Shock smart. Either that or the Samsung smart watch.

The G shock is a first iteration device and not very good smart features wise.

I have a Garmin Vivoactive 3 smart watch. It allows me to read texts, WhatsApp and emails albeit it's better for shorter messages as the screen isn't massive. Tells me who's calling as well.

I have control Spotify on my phone as well which is handy.

Battery life pretty good as well... Min 3 days if BT on without GPS.

I have an Amazfit GTS2 mini.

For the price, (£65 in Argos sale recently) it is amazing. My wife and daughter have similar smart Fitbits and Garmin that were more than 2.5 times the price and arguably it is better.

Battery life is 7 days, which mattered to me. Texts come through from selected Apps. I can see who is ringing me. Heart rate monitor seems accurate, as is the GPS. (I use it whilst cycling regularly). Only minor gripe is you need to start and stop if doing an activity - but that is easy, as long as I remember.

The Zepp app is fully customisable and easy to use. Only issue was I could not get the 'Cycle tracking' to work, until I realised that cycle tracking had nothing to do with bikes......

Thoroughly recommend......

Just found on mine (same watch) that it is watch face dependant. With the one I was using (WeatherFace) I would easily get 7 days, maybe 8+, however that has recently stopped working with Garmin updates and the author has not updated since mid last year. The new one I use (Merlin24) lasts just over 6 days (which is annoying as charging the watch on a Sunday evening from part of my weekly process dating back to my early days with a Pebble watch).
(note I do not use/display the health stuff, just time, date, weather, notifications).

I have a Ticwatch E3 which seems to be the best bang for buck atm.

Wear OS + GPS + NFC

HR + Blood Ox + Sleep monitoring

Water resistant etc

On offer at Amazon for £125 atm, which is less than I paid.

What brand phone do you have? If Samsung I’d go for a watch from the same brand as the integration is great. They’ve also been head and shoulders above the Wear OS devices and you can still use them even if you don’t have a Samsung handset. Wear OS is, however, improving, and now underpins the latest Samsungs.

However, if you think fitness is more important than smartwatch functionality I’d go Garmin. They also look a bit more…manly.

I have an original Ticwatch E, I had it on offer a few years ago when it was new for a bit over £100. My phone contract is up at the end of the year, so I'll look around for any phone deals with a watch. I have a Samsung Note 10 and I'll probably stay with Samsung for the phone so would probably get a Samsung watch too.

My Ticwatch is still going, although the battery doesn't last the day now every so often. It's handy for step counting and seeing messages and notifications.

That's interesting, not noticed myself. I have a very basic face and brightness down to 10%. My display shows time, heart rate, date, battery level and step count.

One thing is the BT connection is very flaky. Can be on my wrist with phone in back pocket and keep disconnecting/reconnecting or can be on my wrist with phone on desk 10m away and fine.

As usual it's thanks to PH that makes me think I need, thus go out and buy things hehe

Things include a brand new Boxster 987 and a Discovery 3 back in 2005 as well as a Mustang GT in 2016 and a Duster in 2021 smile

I like the look of the Amazfit mentioned above at only £70 and then I see the T Rex Pro version at £130, and then I'm looking at Garmin and Suunto and the price point is rising.

I mainly hike, try running from time to time and a little cycling.

Of course all this can be done without a watch but I do like watches. My G Shock from 1994 is still brilliant, I have a Tag dress watch which for the money is pretty crap, and some nice cheaper watches from Seiko, Argos and Russia.

A rugged looking watch that accurately tracks my heartbeat and O2 would be good. If I could control my music without looking at my phone would be a benefit.

My phone tracks my fitness via Google Fit so I can't really see the benefit of another tracker unless the watch can do that solo, thus not having to carry my phone when running.

This thread has had me looking at watches but there are so many, thus now confused.

Maybe the Amazfit would suffice as it won't be much money invested.

Once again, could this be another PH inspired frivolous purchase hehe

Cheers.

I was given a new Samsung watch a couple of years back.

Recommended. I stopped wearing an Omega and probably wouldn't bother going back.

You can control music with the Amazfit. They do more rugged versions too, but budget creep.....

They are cheap, but arguably as good as the branded versions....mate with an Apple Watch was genuinely amazed by it..... compared well to his watch 3xcept the battery life is far superior....

I picked up a Fitbit Sense earlier in the year when it was on offer on Amazon, and gotta say I've been pretty impressed with it. Does HR, SP02, Skin Temperature, ECG (with AFib monitoring) and various other bits and pieces, battery lasts 5 days (unless you turn Snore Monitoring on, when it drops down to 2). Fitbit are owned by Google, so the integration with Android for notifications etc is pretty tight.

I paid £180 for it, although looks like it's gone up to £199.

Probably a dumb question - do these work with iPhones or are you only able to use an Apple watch with iPhones?

Looking for compatibility with texts sent as imessages in particular.

Many do work with the iPhone and should continue to do so, though it was noticeable that Apple removed support for the Pebble well before Android updates started to cause issues.

I have the Huawei band 6, cracking watch for just over £30 at Argos. I also have a Huawei P30 pro so it works well together. The best thing I like about it is you can download different faces for the watch so if you get bored you can change it.
