Turned on the laptop this morning and was greeted with a black screen with a blue box in which the following was written

There is a problem with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) data

press Y reset whole TPM
Press N boot with current data

Note BitLocal may require the recovery key to boot windows

Took the easy way and pressed N

questions What is a recovery key, and where do i find it,

What is TPM data

What would have happened if i had pressed Y, would all my saved data be lost?

lastly ,years ago we had CD so we could reload windows. now with laptops not having CD drives how can we get something to enable us to do this should it go pear shaped, or is it a trip to the PC doctor?

Any suggrestions?

Creating a recovery drive: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create...

The TPM holds secrets like the Bitlocker key. If it gets wiped and your drive is encrypted you will need the recovery key to regain access to the data. It is often backed up to your Microsoft account although you can also save off a copy or print it out.
