Couldn't see any posts about this so thought I'd ask the question - is this something genuinely different or just hype?

Currently invite only with a waiting list of almost 200,000 with full specs not yet released.

I've had OnePlus phones since the 1, including 3, 5 and current 7 Pro which I'm still happy with.
I've got an invite for the Phone(1) which expires tomorrow, but have to stump up a non-refundable £20, just to get the option to buy the phone next week so think i will probably give it a miss, as without all the specs it seems like a mid range phone with some flashing LEDs on the back.

It's all marketing, a generic Chinese phone with some ugly white LEDs on the back (which apparently aren't even the same shade of white).
OP did it along with a few others - essentially stock Android on mid-tier hardware, no guarantee of updates after a year, just a gimmick with limited practical use to make it stand out from the crowd. An invite system to make people want to buy the phone, as somehow it's exclusive.
If it's cheap, then I'm all for it, otherwise what's the point?

Pay extra for charger and you can buy the ear(1) cheaper on other retailers sites.
