It was getting a bit funny about charging, I put it on charge, would take a few efforts to get it to actually charge i.e. putting it on and off the charge pad until the charge indicator came up. Even then it would stop charging during the night. Ive tried three charging cables all the same behaviour. Then last night it wouldnt charge at all and eventually whilst sitting on the charger it has turned off and wont charge or do anything.

So...

1. I take it, its time has come and its just given up so its time to bin it?
2. Is this something I can fix? It does everything I want and I am one for trying to get the most of out things, its unmarked in great condition shame to bin it
3. If I do bin it do I go for a 7, or is a 6 pretty much 90% of a 7 as its about 30% cheaper and thats maths I can happily take the 'downgrade' for
4. Or is there an alternative to Apple Watch that works with my iPhone 13 that i should consider?

All batteries get fked after time.

I have a 6, Mrs has a 7.

6 is fine. Forget bells and whistles.

What are you using it for?
What are Apple quoting to change the battery?

My release day AW3 (Nike, non-Cellular) was the same.

I did a hard reset and updated the firmware (as there is a known issue with storage and the 3 failing to update) and then reconnected it to my iPhone and its been flawless again since.

I know I’ll not get that much longer out of it but another year or 2 would be nice.

I use it for basics like exercise measurement (I cycle run play football) as well as checking in on messages text/emails. Also use the health bits to remind me to get up when sitting at my desk etc. Also for other simple stuff like weather reports - I always used the modular view so could see the info I needed. I also used it to check the time!

I cant do any sort of hard reset or any remedial stuff (tried googling an answer) because the watch is dead, it wont turn on, wont charge. Holding down buttons doesn't do anything.

Hmmm for £82 for a new battery, I am thinking of just getting a new one...Series 3 seems to be woefully neglected by Apple now. Even one update recently I had to delete everything because the built in memory couldnt manage the update as it was too large.

I was in a similar placed earlier in the year with a Series 2 that had worked well for many years. Of late it had started to flatten it's battery midway through the day. Everything fine, plenty of charge, then out of the blue 10% and dropping like a stone.

I um'd and ah'd over getting a new S3, getting an SE, and getting S7. I ended up getting the later. Sure it was more money, but three things made the decision for me.

1) I could get one for about half what I paid for the S2, mainly by going alu and sport band, whereas I'd gone SS for the S2.
2) I'd been bitten by lack of support on the S2 for a few years, since the watch outlasted the support and software updates, it made sense to go with the latest to get longer support.
3) While I'd considered other watches, I was pretty sure there were bits I'd miss on the apple watch, things as simple as stand hours etc.

Just been reading up on whats available and I think I am going to grab an SE.

Always on watch face doesn't really make much difference to me, in fact I like that it goes black rather than always being on. I am from a health perspective more interested in tracking exercise than things like blood oxygen levels or the like that the 7 has over the SE.

I do like the 7s face that goes right to the edges, but the SE is such an improvement over the 3 it will appear much improved to me anyway.

And saving about 35% on the cost sounds appealing!

My series one died on my a couple of months ago. Not the battery, the screen started to be unresponsive, developed a black spot, which then spread to cover the whole screen. Bought a Series 7 GPS 45mm. It's definitely an improvement on the old one in terms of sensors and functionality.
