I've got a 4K Ultra HD TV linked up to a 4K Blu ray player. Connected via a high speed HDMI cable recommended for 2160p 4K.

When I change the TV input to the HDMI source it recognises and display a message "2160p" but then when I play the movie it displays "1080p".

So, 4K disc, 4K disc player, 4K TV, but it's still playing at 1080p. Any ideas?

the bluray player likely has a menu option to set what res it outputs at. Have you checked what its set to? wouldn't surprise me if factory default is a lower resolution so it works on older TVs

Yes, the player's resolution is set to "2160p" but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Does the picture look like 4K or 1080p?

Silly question but have you tried multiple movies/releases ? When I got mine I went to get a number of 'I always tend to have' movies that were available in 4k, however one of them (I think Akira) had reviews from others saying it was actually just HD.

If running at 1080p, is HDR working on the 4k disc?

Good question!

With my eyesight, I'm not so sure!

On my 2019 Sony tv, not all hdmi inputs are equal. Things like hdr only work with 2 of the 4 inputs.

For my LG 4k player, it says either HDR or Dolby Vision in the top right of the screen (identical to Netflix). All my 4k discs have HDR present and I don't own or know of any standard blue ray discs that do. So if HDR is active then you probably have 4k.
