It's a slim chance but given the variety of expertise on PH is there anyone experienced in calculating fibre link loss budgets that could answer a few questions.
Many moons ago, I did some work in fibre comms. I designed some peripheral circuits rather than the actual optics. It's like radio in some ways, but connector losses and reflections are often more of a limiting factor.
