AirPods Pro - phone call and video call quality

I’ve got a set of AirPod Pros, about 2 years old, but the voice quality that others hear when I speak is apparently very poor.

I’ve cleaned them and ensured latest firmware. No difference.

Checking on Google, it seems a common issue.

My question is does this affect all AirPods Pro’s or just some of them? It’s got to a point where I need to buy new headphones as these are just embarrassing but I do like the functionality of the AirPods Pro’s (Siri, phone integration, noise cancellation).

If it only affects some AirPods Pro’s, I’m happy to buy some new ones and if they are still poor, I can take up the fight with Apple as they’ll be in warranty (I should have done this with my current pair but didn’t).

Other than the voice quality sent, I really like them.

Have you tried setting them to use a specific microphone rather than leaving it on auto?

Does it happen when you use them on your phone or when using with a laptop?

I have stopped using my airpods when calling from the laptop as the audio quality is terrible, great on the phone though. It's all about the codec used for the bluetooth audio as soon as you enable the microphone when on the laptop.

I was getting issues with connections and audio. Was on a spin bike in the gym with them in and someone I knew got on the bike next to me so I put them in my shorts pocket while the case was in my locker. Anyway, they obviously ended up thrown in the wash as I forgot and now they work perfectly. So what you're after is a 40c cotton spin lol.

There’s an extended replacement programme for earlish AirPods Pro for a whole range of problems.

Worth giving it a go - I had an issue with distortion on one, took it into the apple store and they replaced both left and right as both failed their diagnostics.
