Hello.

I've experienced a strange email issue that I don't know the cause of.

I've had AOL email addresses for many, many years and I have never had an issue. Until now.

I've just had a call from my insurance broker who was chasing up an email they said that they sent to me a couple of weeks ago.

They've been my brokers for more than 30 years. In that time we've exchanged dozens of emails without a problem.

I'd not received their original email, nor a chasing one. I check my spam regularly and I didn't notice anything in there from them.

Anyway, I asked them to resend, which they did. It didnt arrive. Nor did it bounce back to them. So, I asked them to send it to my back up AOL address. The same thing happened- I didn't receive it, it didn't go to my spam and it didn't ping back to them.

It disappeared.

Finally, they forwarded the original to my Gmail address. It went through as per normal. I can see from that that the original AOL address is correct.

As far as I know, all other emails to AOL are getting through. I certainly haven't blocked my brokers from emailing me through AOL.

So, I assume that it's my broker's end is the issue. Or, is it?

Does anyone know what could possibly be going wrong? Thank you.

Is your broker using a well known email provider?

Or their own email system?

What is their domain name (don't need the full email address, just the bit after the @) and I can have a look at their DNS records.

I had this with Gmail addresses recently - turns out I blocked a spam email that had a Gmail ending and it consequently blocked all Gmail emails to me. I only found this out when my sister opened a new account and then rang me to complain I hadn't responded to some stuff, I have no idea about how many others I missed. I had to go to my blocked lists and change something in there.

Hmm..... I hope that's not the case!

They're using Microsoft as their email provider, so any errors there are unlikely - and indeed, all the records appear to check out ok.

Additionally, their domain is not listed in any email blacklists.

It's certainly a bit of a mystery!

I would suggest contacting AOL support who can then check their server log files to see what is happening to the email, or even if it's reaching their servers (I'm sure it will be).

I know that AOL sometimes has issues being blocked (as a default setting) by some business/IT departments due to concerns about spam accounts back in the day, this seems to happen even when it's an existing and known valid address (another AOL fossil here). Most times it seems to be cured quite quickly (though obviously if it's a potentially important e-mail that can be an issue!!)
