Hi

I replaced my AirPort Time Capsule about a year ago with an ASUS set up, and while very happy, the TimeMachine backup to a SSD connected to the router has always been very flaky. I've tried so much, but it suddenly occurred to me that I could dust down the Time Capsule and just use as a TimeMachine wireless backup.

However, I'm not sure this is possible, and totally confused myself after researching.....

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Did exactly this for quite a while before I ran out of space on it, using as a NAS.

You can set it up in bridge mode connected via ethernet and turn the wireless off.

Also, does this mean it will to be connected by Ethernet to use TimeMachine?

Thanks again.

Just set it up using Airport Utility. If it's been off for a while it may need a firmware update.

Time capsule is very old tech nowadays. I gave mine up 2 years ago and moved to a Mesh set up for wi fi and a cheap 2 bay NAS for storage and back ups; it's night and day better.

(PS also got really strong money when I sold the old Apple tech).

No - laptop over wifi to router which has Time Capsule plugged in over ethernet. It's all a series of pipes.

I'm still using my Time Capsule, just upgraded the HDD to 4Tb, mines a very old one, still very good and hardly " old tech'. Rumours are Apple are resurrecting the 'Airport' .
