Hi all,

I have a ring doorbell pro hardwired to the mains & a floodlight cam on my shed on the other side of my drive. I have a virgin superhub 3 in modem mode & a netgear orbi mesh system consisting of an rbr750 router hardwired to the virgin hub in my lounge & 2 rbs750 satellites, one in the garage & the other in the shed.

I've noticed there is always a few seconds lag before getting notifications on my phone or tablet & would like to do something about it.

Are there any IT wizards on here that can help me optimise my mesh set up & give me any advice or tips to get rid of the lag?

I've tried the netgear forums but they are no help at all & Google doesn't give any answers either.

There is a lot more complexity here than it just being a speed issue or the wi-fi at fault.

Your push notification has to go up to the cloud and get pushed back out again to your device. Do you know anyone else with a similar system and is theirs slower or faster than yours? A few seconds seems like a fair compromise for what it is doing.

I've a nest setup, and have a few seconds lag. Pretty sure it's just par for the course.

I have an Arlo doorbell with a very similar setup. Very similar experience. Works best when the doorbell and my phone are both on the main router, not the mesh.

Thanks for the replies. I had a feeling it would probably be a case of it's just the way it is.

It gets irritating because sometimes by the time I get a notification the person who rang the bell is walking away.

Any recommendations for a better setup or are all options pretty much the same?

The technologies all work in a similar manner, you may be able to reduce latency by picking one that has a data center for services in the UK but they likely wont publish that data for you to find out.

If you are on 4G when receiving the notification that will be the slowest bit.

There is a ring lite app which reduces lag.

Wifi on the Ring devices is really poor. I have a Ring Chime Pro within 3 feet, line of sight of the door bell and also occasionally get lag and see poor network signals.

Rapid Ring. Slightly better, but not much.

I agree.
