so I have an adsl socket from bt which is the old telephone end that needs a filter on. i want to put that into an ethernet socket nearby and patch that to a adsl socket on a router in another room where the ethernet goes.

can that be done. if i just had a filter then a adsl to ethernet cable and and ethernet to adsl cable at the other end?

Thanks

You're effectively just extending the phone wiring using ethernet cable, yes it can be done if you get all the details right

I personally wouldn't because it's better to have the phone line as short as poss but you go crazy if you want to

Yes you can use an RJ11 to RJ45 converter at either end, we've used them to put POTS phones on desks via Ethernet cables and in some cases run DSL models over that. It will degrade the signal slightly but may not make a blind bit of difference to the DSL signal, depends on the quality of the connections and converters.

If you have any issues then plug the router into the master socket direct before calling the provider to get any help as they may well suspect any local cable extensions like this.
