Spotify skipping to playlist radio

This has been driving me insane the last couple of months. Seemingly at random I'll start Spotify or I'll connect the phone to CarPlay and Spotify will start up as normal, but quickly skip whatever is playing and start playing the Playlist Radio based on what seems to be a random playlist I listened to sometime in the past.

Really frustrating if I'm halfway through a playlist as I'll usually listen to it on shuffle, so I'd just have most of the same songs repeated if I played it again. Doubly throw-the-phone-out-of-the-window frustrating if I'm halfway through a podcast or got a few queued up on a long journey, only for the queue to be cleared if I stop to take a phone call or fill up.

Thought it may have been a CarPlay issue at first, but I've noticed it has done it a few times when I've connected my AirPods to the phone. Even so I've deleted the car from CarPlay on the phone and set it all up from scratch again with no joy.

Phone is on iOS 15.4.1, but it's been an issue for the last couple of updates, same with the Spotify app. There's been quite a few app updates since and have made no difference.

Seems to be completely random too with nothing to trigger it. Sometimes it'll go a few days and be fine, but it's done it three times this afternoon and the phone wasn't used at all whilst it was unplugged from the car yet each time it decided to start the same playlist radio with the same bd Kiefer Sutherland song.....

This may be totally wrong but I'm sure Ive noticed something similar. When on shuffle on a playlist and it shuffles to the last song it sometimes goes to a different suggested playlist. Or possibly once it has cycled through all the songs.

I thought I was imagining it but I think alive had the same issue. Starts playing songs that I know aren’t in any of my playlists

Could this possibly be related to the "Autoplay on this/other devices" setting?

Perhaps on shuffle Spotify thinks the playlist has ended and start playing random songs.

Tried disabling both this morning, but still skipped to it's own playlist this afternoon instead of carrying on with the podcast I was listening to.

I’ve been getting this for the last couple of weeks. My playlist is about 400 songs, just any old stuff that I like, and I have it set to shuffle. It’s fine when I first initiate it, then when I start a new journey in the car, it resumes, plays two or three songs from my playlist and starts interspersing them with other songs, similar genres, but not from my list. One or two I’ve quite enjoyed but it seems to go off on more and more of a tangent the longer you let it continue.

I’ve certainly not changed any settings, but the app is constantly being updated of course, so maybe one of the defaults has changed. I’ve not gone poking about to check.

I get similar results.

It's getting to the point that I may switch to another service after 12 years
Randomly starting a radio play list. Only playing 4-5 songs out of a 450+ plus list. Discovery weekly recommending crap I would never listen too etc etc.

I have now done a quick bit of research and apparently turning off the “autoplay” feature should stop this from happening. It was turned on on mine so I’ve just disabled it and we’ll see what happens.

Maybe check it’s still disabled and not managed to turn itself back on somehow. Since I turned mine off it’s not gone rogue so far. It’s even digging out stuff from the depths of my playlist that it has not offered for ages.

Appears to have half fixed it, it'll just skip to the next song in the playlist now and I need to press play to set it going again. Though if I'm halfway through a podcast or I've got a couple queued up it's a pain to find them and queue them up again.

Thought something odd's been happening recently! Just wasn't sure as we'd let the kids select music in the car.
