When in one of my notes on my iPhone I tried to highlight some text and by mistake I highlighted all text, then accidentally deleted all of that text. This made the Note disappear. I don’t see any ‘Recently Deleted’ folder to restore it from.

In effect I didn’t delete the note, just the text in that note, but that seems enough to have lost that note altogether.

My Notes sync between my iPhone & MacBook (which is at home, I’m away on holiday).

Is there a way of retrieving the lost Note please?

I tried emulating this and it seems deleting all the text in a Note does delete the Note.

I believe unfortunately it’s a case of restoring from your backup

Thanks, it’s not backed up so seems I’ve lost it.

Is there a way to prevent my iPhone syncing with my MacBook so when I get home from my holiday the text might still appear on the MacBook note?

Turn off the router in your house so as there is no internet or WiFi there. This will stop your MacBook from syncing when it starts up. It's too late to worry about the phone syncing - that's already happened.

Once all done you could consider switching over to a note taking app or service which does actually have a Bin which you can retrieve stuff from should something similar happen again.

If you use time machine backups on your Mac then this might help if you find the note also missing there.

Sorry it's probably is too late now, but if you shake the phone it would have undone the delete action I believe.

Well I’ll be home later today so I’ll see if I can retrieve it from my MacBook as described earlier.

Notes can be stored in a folder of any IMAP account on the phone, if you keep tapping back to the top level ‘folders’ it will show you which accounts have notes in. Poss check that account’s trash/bin.

I clean forgot to turn off my phone before getting home from my holiday, by the time I remembered the note was gone from my MacBook, lost forever. But thanks for the help everyone. At least I now know to look into ways on backing up my notes.
