Can anyone recommend a decent password manager, I’ve never used one before but rather than using the same key words all of the time I’d prefer something that generates and keeps them in one place. It’s being used on 1 windows laptop and 2 apple devices

I use LastPass. The free version only allows one device though so I use the Premium version.

I use DashLane. It's not the cheapest but I find it great, and works well in iOS.

I used to use LastPass until they changed the pricing model and had some issues with a potential breach. I moved to Bitwarden which seems to be popular among IT Geeks and so far has been great.

I used to use Lastpass but moved over to Bitwarden & find it very good - better than LP in my opinion & well woth £10 a year. The commomly recommended ones are 1Password, Keepass, Bitwarden & Lastpass.

Some users don't like the concept of cloud based storage of the password database & prefer to hold it in a local file. If you want it work across PC & phone you probably want to look at the cloud based ones & you should defiunately think about 2FA as well.

Bitwardens free version is good enough for most people. I moved to it when Lastpass turned to st and it’s at least as good as it was.

I'm a KeePass fan (KeePass 2), though i suspect compared the commercial rivals the interface may look a little tired and dated. Also you might have to install (free) add-ons from the official site to match some of the inbuilt automations in the paid alternatives.
In theory it is local hosted, though you can copy/move the key file around, however I keep mine on a cloud - Dropbox for me though that does cause a slight complication on my Android phone as dropbox changes local caches regularly so I open the password manager by tapping on the keypass file. Don't think you have the same issue if you are syncing with OneDrive or GDrive.

Downside to KeePass, while it is available for Android it is through a port, though downloaded from the official site. Net result is you need to keep it updated yourself and also be willing to install non app store applications - I use KeePassDroid. Can't remember how I installed it on my old iPad (no longer used) - think it may have been the same method as with Android.

Same here. Use it on my PC as well as my mobile. Easy, straightforward, no messing, free.

Bitwarden.
I don't remember what 'extras' come with Premium subscription ($10 p.a.), but I happily pay it to ensure it sticks around.
It's possible to self-host if you want to be self-sufficient, but I'm happy with their cloud solution.

LastPass Premium user here, I've had no issues with it at all. Toyed with moving to Bitwarden (it's what I recommend to those who want a free one since LastPass made their free version either desktop-only or mobile-only) but to be honest for the saving I'd make it's not worth the aggro. If LP fk up somehow then I'd move to Bitwarden.

I used Lastpass for years, then moved to Bitwarden when work did, so I don't need separate browser plugins. Bitwarden nicely separates my work and personal stuff, so I just use that for everything. I like that the Chrome plugin pops out into its own window too (not sure if others do that). Handy when copy-pasting into stuff that isn't web pages.

A little notebook and I let Chrome remember low risk stuff.

Lastpass will let you export your vault in a format Bitwarden can use. It couldn’t be easier to switch tbh.

I expect there will be howls of horror but I find that Bitwarden is brilliant at auto-filling credit card details - far better than LastPass was.

This is interesting reading. I'm on 1Password and it works but I seem to find the app fighting the browser plug in, the mobile implementation isn't great and overall it's quite a tedious experience - that I'm paying modest money for. Might have a look at Bit Warden.

I used to use Keepass... tied with Dropbox, but when Dropbox started restricting connections... I moved to Dashlane.

I've found Dashlane pretty good, and won't be changing anytime soon.

I use google. It means you're more or less tied to using Chrome as a browser though. Personally I don't mind that, but some do.

I use Last Pass and have the family licence (not sure if that is premium). Its been good, but I do have a couple of niggles with using it on a Mac. 1st is, it won't let you choose the default browser, so it always uses Safari. The second is, I have to close Safari if I want to launch a site from Last Pass or nothing happens when I press launch. Lastly the search within Last Pass is sometimes odd, I can never search for Virgin no matter what I do to the entry, but other sites I can search for. Probably can all be sorted if I spoke to support, but they are very small niggles
