https://news.sky.com/story/remember-the-y2k-bug-mi...

" Microsoft says it is aware of a programming flaw which saw some customers' Exchange servers stop processing emails just as the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve.

System administrators, who are sharing workarounds on social media, have dubbed the bug Y2K22 - in the style of the Y2K bug which affected some computers at exactly the same time 22 years earlier."

So if they had 22 years to plan for this???

Although not really like the millennium bug That was about comparing 99 with 00. This is about converting a string to a number and not having enough space for said number.

My brothers just received an email from the company that supplied the credit card machines he had in the taxis prior to changing to Sumup last year.

Apparently they haven't worked since New Years Eve.

Does the "easy fix" disable the malware filter, and if so, are you expecting to survive the onslaught of stuff on the inside of your firewalls?

To add a car related slant, it looks like something similar has hit Honda.

Had to follow a 16 step routine to get them working again.

Had to reboot the machine, pressing no. 2 while it rebooted to get into a hidden menu. Change the date back to 31 dec 21. Then have it check for new updates, each machine failed the very slow download 3 times at about 90% complete.

So it took about 1hr to do both machines. Glad I wasn’t responsible for dozens of machines.

Could be worse. You could have a Sonicwall in front of your Exchange setup laugh
