More than likely a scam. What email address is it from?
This would be in the news as it affects all customers.

Amazon probably tried flexing their muscle demanding lower transaction fees and Visa have tried playing their bluff?
Very much this. A bit of corporate willy-waving that's gone public. The chances of this actually happening IMO are practically nil.
I'd say the chances of this happening is the total opposite of practically nil.
On the BBC news website this morning as well. Think some one already mentioned, it is over there charges (so I assume Amazon already do not accept American Express or Diners Card) and the credit card only.
Of course you could accuse Amazon of possibly using it as an excuse to get people to take up their credit card.
For many banks now, the advantage to using debit cards is your phone app will alert you to any purchases with the card so you will know straight away if someone else is using yours (at which point the card fraud hot lines are free calls).

Amazon do accept Amex. I always understood that their merchant fees were quite a bit higher than Visa or Mastercard, but maybe they did a deal for Amazon?Camelot1971 said:

Another Brexit bonus!
EU cap the fees so I can continue to use my visa cards without issue.
Except where businesses stop taking Visa cards, of course. EU cap the fees so I can continue to use my visa cards without issue.
I have Prime more or less by mistake, but having signed up I have used it - the TV streaming stuff is OK, and I’ve purchased via Amazon where I otherwise wouldn’t have.
I don’t plan to change to using my debit card, so this will cost Amazon my (admittedly limited) custom. They won’t notice, and I suspect I won’t either.

My Debit and Credit instantly pop up alerts on my phone when a transaction takes place.sunbeam alpine said:
I think that Visa must be taking a lot of hits at the moment. I have 2 credit cards via my bank, one for personal use, and one for business. They sent me new cards back in January because they had made the move from Visa to Mastercard.
I think we use the same bank. I now have two new non visa debit cards.
